The Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has said that President Buhari will hand over the baton of leadership in Nigeria to an Igbo person by the time he is through with his second term in office in 2023.
Mustapha therefore urged Ndigbo to embrace the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2019 presidential election.
Mustapha’s statement negates an earlier position by Babatunde Fashola, the power, housing and works minister, who reportedly said the presidential seat would return to the south west in 2023.
The Vanguard reports that Mustapha said this in Umuahia, Abia state during the inauguration of the south east chapter of the Presidential Support Committee (PSC).
The SGF told the Ndigbo that President Buhari does not hate them, adding that the shortest route to producing a president of Igbo extraction is by supporting and voting for APC in 2019.
Mustapha, who was represented by Gideon Sammani, noted that the APC has gained some level of acceptance in the south east. He urged the people to work hard to ensure that Buhari is reelected in 2019.
“Buhari has done a lot for Ndigbo,” he said as he mentioned the second Niger bridge as one of the projects being handled by the current administration.
