Teenager, 2 others land in police custody for allegedly selling siblings for N800,000 to raise WASSCE fee

- A teenager and two other people have landed in police custody in Imo state for allegedly stealing and selling two siblings for N800,000

- The teenager, Precious Ehiedo, was said to have stolen and sold the siblings to raise fee for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination

- According to the commissioner of police in the state, Dasuki Galadanchi, Ehiedo's parents told her to go and steal children for them to sell in order to raise money for her examination

A 15-year-old Senior Secondary School pupil identified as Precious Ehiedo and two others, Juliet Ogbor and Favour Okoh, have been arrested by the police in Imo state for allegedly stealing and selling two siblings.

Punch reports that the siblings, who are between the ages of two and seven years, were allegedly sold for N800,000 to one Mama Joy.

Legit.ng gathers that the incident was confirmed by the state commissioner of police, Dasuki Galadanchi. The police boss said Mama Joy and Okoh resold one of the children to Ogbor for N750,000.

The commissioner of police said: “On November 13 at around 9am, one Precious Ehiedo, 15, daughter of Mr and Mrs Romeo and Uchechi Ehiedo, resident at Ogbuaku in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State but natives of Abraka in Delta State, requested from her parents money for the SSCE registration.

“Her parents told her to go and steal children for them to sell in order to raise money for her examination. Being familiar with the two children at her maternal home, Umuezeala Ama, in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State, she stole the children.

“The girl and her father left for Mbano, but the father stopped at the Amaraku Market square, waiting for his daughter to hand over the children, who he had instructed her to steal.

“The 15-year-old met the children playing, stole them and joined her father at the Amaraku Market and both left with the children to Ogbaku.

“The children were sold to one Mama Joy at the rate of N800,000. Mama Joy, with one Favour Okoh, resold one of the children to one Juliet Ogbor for N750,000.”

According to the police boss, one of the children identified as Chiemerem was recovered on December 15 at Agbor in Delta state.

He said there were ongoing efforts to recover the other child, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted in line with the laws of the land.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Cross River police command said it arrested a couple (names withheld), for allegedly selling their six-year-old daughter for N400,000.

Presenting the couple before newsmen, the state commissioner of police, Hafiz Inuwa, said the suspects were arrested at Ikom local government area on April 26 following a tip-off.

According to Inuwa, the couple sold the child to enable them offset their house rent and open a small provision shop.
