Relief as Borno police successfully foil bomb attack

- The Borno commissioner of police says the police in the state has successfully foiled a lone suicide bomb attack

- A teenage female bomber attempted to infiltrate a security checkpoint before security men shot at her

- Men of the Explosive Ordinance Department were subsequently deployed to sanitise the area

The police in Borno successfully foiled a lone suicide bomb attack on Wednesday night, December 12, in Maiduguri, the police commissioner, Damian Chukwu, has said.

Chukwu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by telephone, that the incident occurred at about 8:30pm on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

Legit.ng gathers that he said that a teenage female bomber attempted to infiltrate a security checkpoint before security men shot at her and the Improvised Explosive Device vest strapped to her body exploded.

He said the explosion blew the girl into pieces, noting that there were no other casualties in the attack.

The commissioner added that men of the Explosive Ordinance Department were deployed to sanitise the area.

In a similar development, Legit.ng previously reported that special forces of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in conjunction with some Nigerian Army troops, successfully foiled a bombing attack by Boko Haram terrorists at the University of Maiduguri, Borno state.

According to a statement sent by NAF's spokesman, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, the terrorists tried to gain access into the university but were quickly detected by the NAF special forces.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
