Nigeria will continue to support ECOWAS - Buhari

- President Buhari hosted a team led by speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Moustapha Cisse Lo, at the State House in Abuja

- The president promised that Nigeria will continue to support the sub-regional body

- He maintained that his country will expeditiously respond to issues faced by the body

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, December 13, vowed that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that Nigeria will continue to support the sub-regional body.

Buhari made this vow when he hosted a team led by speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Moustapha Cisse Lo, at the State House in Abuja.

This is contained in a statement by his media adviser, Femi Adesina. The statement read: “With my double caps of being president of Nigeria, and chairman of ECOWAS, it is mandatory for Nigeria to assist the sub-regional body.”

“We will respond to the issues expeditiously. It is our duty to look after you. We will attend to the issues you have articulated.”

Speaker Cisse Lo thanked Nigeria for allocating land in Abuja to ECOWAS Parliament for its permanent secretariat, noting that the nation has led the sub-regional body admirably.

He also applauded the current administration’s commitment to security and anti-corruption, saying, “It has given us hope in the region.”

The speaker congratulated President Buhari on the confidence reposed in him by other leaders of West African countries, “which made them choose you as chairman of ECOWAS.”

Meanwhile, legit.ng had reported that citing the interests of Nigerians as reason, President Buhari said his administration would not rush reforms in the petroleum and gas industry, adding that the reforms must be carefully thought out.

The president made the assertion on Thursday, December 13, when he received the newly-inaugurated executive committee members of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

President Buhari also said discussions were ongoing on the much-awaited Petroleum Industry Bill.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
