Maurizio Sarri keen to keep out-of-favour Chelsea star at Stamford Bridge in January

- Maurizio Sarri has revealed he wants Fabregas to stay at Stamford Bridge

- The former Arsenal midfielder has been linked with a January move to Milan

- Fabregas has only made five Premier League appearances this season

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has said he wants Cesc Fabregas to remain at Stamford Bridge and has hailed his importance to his squad.

The Spaniard has only made five appearances in the Premier League this season with newly-signed Jorginho is the preferred option by the Italian gaffer in the defensive midfield role.

And the former Barcelona star has been linked with a move away in January with offers coming from Serie A giants AC Milan.

The 31-year-old alongside David Luiz and Gary Cahill are all on contracts that will expire next summer, but Sarri intends to 'respect' the Blues' policy of only offering one-year extensions to players aged 30 and older.

"In this position we have only two players, Jorginho and Fabregas, so for me it would be really a problem without Cesc," said Sarri.

"I want him to stay, I don't know the final decision of Cesc and the club of course.

"But for me it's very important and if Cesc will go I think that we need to buy another player, and it's not easy because, technically, Cesc is a very important player.

"And I think that in the market it's very difficult to find a player with his characteristics."

The former Napoli boss also pledged to respect the stance of Chelsea's board when it comes to limiting the length of contracts offered to their older players.

Sarri was asked if he agrees with that blanket policy, and he said: "Oh, it depends. It depends on the single situation I think.

"It's a rule and so we have to respect that, I think.

"As you know very well the big problem is the duration of the new contracts. Because, as you know, over 30 years the club offers only one year to renew.

"And for a player of 31, it's a big problem to sign a new contract for only one year. So the problem is only this, I think."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has told the club's chief to sort out Eden Hazard's future at Stamford Bridge as soon as possible.

The 27-year-old had earlier revealed during the week he is not ready to discuss a new deal with the club until the end of the season.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
