Kano state Assembly reacts as Ganduje nominates 4 new commissioners, 1 auditor general

- Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano has nominated four new state commissioners and has sent their names to the state Assembly for approval

- Alongside the prospective commissioners, the governor also nominated an auditor general of the state

- In response to Ganduje's nomination, the state Assembly has called on the nominees to appear before the House on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 for screening

The Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has sent a letter to the state Assembly seeking its approval for the appointment of four nominees as commissioners and an auditor general.

The speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, who announced this during a special plenary session on Thursday, December 27, in Kano, said the House had also received two other letters from the state government, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

According to the letter, the nominees include Bashir Yahaya-Karaye, Alhaji Mukhtar Ishak-Yakasai, Alhaji Shehu Kura and Alhaji Muhammad Tahir popularly known as ‘Baba Impossible’.

Rurum also read the second letter from the governor through his deputy, Nasiru Gawuna seeking for the approval of the House to appoint Hajiya Amina Inuwa-Sa’id as the state’s auditor-general.

“We also received another letter seeking our permission to establish College of Health, Science and technology and repeal of Kano state Public Health edict of 1984”, the speaker said.

Rurum, therefore, called on the nominees to appear before the House on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, for the screening and confirmation.

Also during the plenary session, the legislators received the report of the House committee on Appropriations on the 2019 proposed budget estimate.

After a heated debate, the lawmakers unanimously adopted the report and ordered the chairman of the committee to make some corrections before the passage of the bill on Monday, December 31.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a high court sitting in Kano had issued an interim injunction restraining the state House of Assembly from investigating the bribery allegation against Ganduje

The court's decision came after a suit filed by the plaintiff Muhammad Zubair for himself and the representative of national coordinator of lawyers for sustainable democratization of Nigeria, against three defendants that included Kano state House of Assembly, chairman of investigative committee Baffa Babba Dan Agundi and the attorney general of the state and commissioner of justice.
