Today road accidents are the most dangerous threat to the health and lives of people around the world. Damage from road accidents exceeds every damages from all other types of accidents.

Traffic accidents are one of the most dangerous global threats to people's health and life. The problem is aggravated by the fact that people injured in accidents are usually young and healthy (before the accident). According to the World Health Organization, around 1.2 million of people die in road accidents every year, and about 50 million are injured.

Such a terrible situation makes road safety even more important. There are different programs that aim to increase the level of safety on roads.

There are active means of road safety:

  • Reasonable design and location of road network objects
  • Study of the effect of road construction on the accident probability

  • Traffic laws and rules
  • Control over the observance of traffic rules
  • Mandatory state inspection

And passive means:

  • To make the roads and highways of the country safe
  • To control and check the road worthiness of vehicles
  • To control the work and infrastructure systems to eliminate or minimize accidents on the road;
  • To educate drivers and pedestrians about the importance of road rules, discipline and mutual respect.

Another important element that influences the safety level on the roads of the country is road safety rules in Nigeria. The rules are composed and controlled by the Federal Road Safety Corps.
