The Lagos State Government has vowed that henceforth, it would deal ruthlessly with motorists or individuals caught attacking Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials.

Legit.ng gathers that the commissioner said the government will no longer fold its arms and watch as LASTMA officers are killed and de-humanised by members of the public.

Lawanson appealed to motorists and commuters; pointing out that LASTMA was created and empowered by law to “manage vehicular traffic flow in the state.”

He said: “One is therefore at a loss as to why our officers, employed to safeguard members of the public, are always attacked by the same members of the public whose interest they are promoting and protecting.

“Members of the public should realise that these officers are parents, uncles, sisters, brothers, nieces and indeed children of other people.”

Lawanson cited the case of a LASTMA officer, Rotimi Adeyemo, who was shot dead recently as he performed his duty, by the now deceased operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force, Olakunle Olonade.

He said the deceased LASTMA official had bagged a National Certificate in Education (NCE) and a bachelor’s degree in Economics.

He said: “He left behind a 105-year-old father, an 88-year-old mother, a wife and three children, including a set of twins.”

Lawanson continued: “We would like to reiterate that going forward, we will not tolerate the slightest attack on any of our officers and men.

“We shall henceforth apply the full weight of the relevant extant law on culprits in this regard.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos ordered the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and all the relevant security agencies to strictly enforce the provisions of the state’s traffic laws, in order to bring about sanity on the roads.

Ambode also ordered the state attorney-general and the justice ministry to immediately increase the number of mobile courts in the state to 20, to summarily prosecute traffic offenders and serve as a deterrent to others who might want to indulge in the violation of traffic laws.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
