The federal government has been urged by Anglican bishops to declare armed herdsmen in the country as a terrorist group.

The bishops in a communique issued at the end of the first session of the 4th synod of the Diocese of Western Izon (Anglican communion) held at St Peter’s Church Bomadi, Delta state, noted that little has been done to arrest the killer herdsmen and their sponsors responsible for the killings of many Nigerians, Vanguard reports.

We expect the Federal Government to take a stand on the killings by herdsmen so that everybody will see that they are not in support of their activities because as it stands, it looks like the government is shielding the herdsmen," the communique read by Reverend Edafe Emamezi partly read.

The clerics also cautioned the government against selective trial of alleged corrupt individual, noting that the rule of law should be followed to ensure that every person found wanting of corruption faces justice.

The religious group further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strive to ensure that it conducts a free, fair and credible 2019 general election.

Meanwhile, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breaders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has accused immigrants herdsmen from neighbouring countries of perpetrating violent attacks and putting the blame on indigenous Fulani herders.

Daily Trust reports that the chairman of MACBAN, Giwa Council, Ibrahim Abubakar, who spoke at a retreat organised for the leaderships of the group from 23 councils of the state on security challenges encountered by cattle rearers in the state, said the immigrants herdsmen are tarnishing the image of the indigenous herdsmen.
