Checkout 4 caretaker managers who turned things around in the Premier League

Manchester United recently employed caretaker manager Ole Gunner Solksjaer after Jose Mourinho was given the boot.

The pressure is now on the Norwegian to finish strongly and secure a Champions League spot in the Premier League top-four.

The English league have had a couple of managers who came at the time their clubs were in serious trouble and they turned around their fortunes.

Here are five caretaker managers who had successful spells with their respective clubs.

1. Guus Hiddink

On two occasions the Dutch manager did a pretty good job with Chelsea when he rescued Felipe Scolari in February 2009 and Mourinho in December 2015.

Hiddink had a dramatic season in 2009 where he won 11 out of 13 matches and he took the Blues into the Champions League semifinals but were controversially knocked out by Barcelona as well winning FA Cup.

He however moved Chelsea from 16th position to 10th place when he took over from Mourinho three years ago, winning 11 matches in total.

2. Craig Shakespeare

Claudio Ranieri could not replicate the fairy tale story that won the Premier League for the Foxes in the preceding season as the Italian gaffer was sacked when his team was battling relegation in 17th position.

Craig Shakespeare took over and began the revival for the King Power outfit as they finished strongly in 12th including a Champions League quarter finals berth.

3. Roberto Di Matteo

The Italian is arguably the most successful caretaker manager in Premier League history as he took over the helms for Andreas Villas-Boas in March 2012.

Chelsea became champions of Europe for the first time under Di Matteo, getting past Napoli, Benfica, Barcelona and Bayern Munich to clinch the trophy.

He also finished the Premier League season in 6th before he was sacked the same year in November but left unforgettable memories at Stamford Bridge.

4. Kenny Daglish

Liverpool also had difficult a season in 2012 where they were languishing in 12th position under the tutelage of Roy Hodgson.

Anfield legend Kenny Daglish took over and was able to win 10 out of 18 matches for the Reds and finished 6th in the Premier League.

Daglish was also responsible for the sale of Fernando Torres to Chelsea where he used the money to purchase Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.
