Boko Haram reportedly storms, captures 6 Borno towns

- Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly captured six towns in Borno state

- The towns are Baga, Doron-Baga, Kross Kawwa, Bunduran, Kekeno and Kukawa

- Nigerians or multinational forces have reportedly left those areas of the state

Emerging reports have claimed that Boko Haram insurgents have seized Baga, Doron-Baga, Kross Kawwa, Bunduran, Kekeno and Kukawa towns of Borno state.

Daily Trust reports that its impeccable military and political sources made this known in Maiduguri on Sunday, December 30.

It was learnt that all the six towns are major population centres in Kukawa local government area of northern Borno. There are currently no Nigerians or multinational forces in the areas.

The insurgents first attacked a base of the multinational forces located in Mile Four (an area outside Baga town) at about 4pm and the military responded.

The reports also claimed that fighting took place till midnight after which the insurgents took control of the military base while our soldiers retreated.

Commander of the multinational force, whose name was given as Brigadier General Hassan, was said to have escaped at night to a police base in Baga town alongside some of his men.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Nigerian Army would on Friday, December 28, address journalists in Maiduguri on the confusing reports emerging from the incident.

That would be coming up following the attack on Baga, a fishing town in the northern part of Borno state on Wednesday, December 26.

The press conference will take place at the headquarters of Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole, according to a notice sent to correspondents.

According to the report, while some claim the town has been overrun by Boko Haram insurgents, the military said the attackers have been repelled and reported the loss of a naval personnel.
