Atletico Madrid boss Simeone insists former Chelsea superstar will not be sold in January

- Diego Costa has been told to forget leaving Atletico Madrid in January

- The 30-year-old is on the radar of Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian ahead of next season

- He has only scored one goal in 11 Spanish League appearances this term

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has reportedly ruled out Diego Costa's exit in January amid interest from the Chinese Super League.

The former Chelsea striker is said to be wanted by Tianjin Quanjian as they hope to strengthen their attack ahead of next season.

Costa has scored just two goals and created one assist in 14 appearances for his La Liga side this season.

However, SunSport reports that his manager Simeone is keen on keeping the striker who scored twice in their UEFA Super Cup triumph against Real Madrid in August.

He said that: "I hope, wish for and need Diego Costa in February, no doubt about it, and I believe he will be there."

Costa's only goal in the LA Liga this term was against Barcelona in their 1-1 draw at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in November.

He has also been in and out of the pitch owing to series of injuries, with a foot injury keeping him out of Atletico Madrid last league game against Deportivo Alavés.

Atletico currently third on the table with 28 points - three points behind table toppers Barca, but a win against Real Valladolid on Saturday will see them momentarily top the table.

And Simone claimed nothing but top spot is acceptable for his side, who have not won the league since 2014.

Simone added: "I think that Atletico fans fully appreciate what we're doing and the job the players have been doing for several years now, but of course the demand now increased.

"We have new responsibilities and need to be self-critical. We have to be demanding of ourselves.

"We've had four draws away [in a row in the league], so we need to improve to give a solution to what the fans demand.

"I'm the most self-critical, with myself first of all, and as I said, being in second place now is not good for Atletico."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Diego Costa threatened to dump Spanish League giants Atletico Madrid for a move to China unless the club increases his salary.

The 30-year-old former Chelsea star is said to be demanding parity with fellow front-man Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid according to the report by Marca.

Diego Costa is believed to be earning around £7 million a year with Atletico Madrid but he wants an increase in his wages.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
