Arewa rejects Northern Elders Forum's move against Buhari’s re-election bid

- The Arewa Consultative Forum has reacted to a comment made by the chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Ango Abdullahi, on President Buhari’s re-election bid

- Abdullahi is said to have called on northerners not to vote for President Buhari in 2019 elections

- Anthony Sani, secretary general of ACF, while reacting to the Abdullahi’s comments said they are not in position to decide for the citizens

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) declared that it does not know anything about a comment made by the chairman of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Ango Abdullahi, on President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election during the 2019 general elections.

It was learnt that Abdullahi on Sunday, December 9, called on northerners not to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the elections.

Premium Times reports that Anthony Sani, secretary general of ACF while reacting to Abdullahi’s comments said “The Arewa Consultative Forum, wishes to disassociate itself from the statement credited to the northern elders forum kicking against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and its position that the administration has failed. It is Nigerians that will decide whether a president has failed or succeeded.”

Sani said the ACF is “not a partisan organisation.” He added: “It is God that used the masses, citizens of the country in making Buhari a president and they are not in position to decide for the citizens.

“What I can tell you is that, we are not part of northern elders forum’s position against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari. I read that even some members of the northern elders Forum distanced themselves from the position against president.”

Sani also went historical about the difference of opinion between the ACF and the NEF on political and governance issues.

“Not quite long, ACF dissociated itself from Northern Elders Forum’s communiqué for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari and other northern Nigerian leaders. In the communique, they passed vote of no confidence on president and other Northern Nigerian leaders and we said we are not part of the communique.

“Again, we are not in support of the position of some northern elders against President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election. It’s Nigerians that will decide and they are not speaking for the people of the north.”

The NEF and the ACF are two of the topmost socio-political organisations in Northern Nigeria. President Buhari from Katsina, North-west Nigeria seeks a fresh four year term in office. The presidential election is scheduled to hold on February 16, 2019.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported some northern leaders disagreed over President Muhammadu Buhari's decision to seek re-election during the 2019 general elections.

Some northern leaders said they would not support President Buhari’s re-election. they, however, announced their preferred presidential candidate in the elections, insisting that the candidate to support remained one of their own from the list of the 71 presidential hopeful cleared by the INEC to contest the 2019 elections.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
