APC senatorial candidate decries destruction of campaign billboards in Enugu

- A candidate of the APC has decried an alleged destruction of billboards by some members of the PDP in Enugu

- The senatorial candidate said PDP will stop her from defeating incumbent Deputy Senate President

- According to Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, her supporters were harassed and sent threat messages from the PDP camp

Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, Enugu West All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate, has decried the alleged destruction of her campaign billboards in Enugu State.

Ibekaku-Nwagwu, who made this known in a statement in Enugu on Thursday, accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for pulling down the billboards.

According to her, no amount of desperation and antics of the PDP will stop her from defeating incumbent Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu in 2019.

She decried the introduction of violence to the exercise, alleging that her supporters were harassed and sent threat messages from the PDP camp.

“The threat was initially treated with a wave of the back hand before this recent development which is a pointer to the worst that may come as the campaign progresses.

“Destruction of political posters, billboards is all criminal offences. We are, therefore, calling on security agencies in the state to investigate this development and bring perpetrators to book,” she said.

According to her, this action from PDP’s camp depicts desperation and evidence of fear of imminent defeat.

“We will allow the security agencies to handle the matter because our campaign is purely issue-based and as such will remain focused because we are convinced that Enugu West people are determined to replace the incumbent.

“I have the capacity as on my intimidating credentials and my people are desirous of electing me to replace the incumbent, as he is completing four tenures as a senator representing Enugu West.

“Campaigns periods are times for presentation of scorecards and that is what I am currently doing.

"I had an overwhelming campaign during the party primaries and have increased the tempo of my campaign since INEC time-table declared the general campaigns open.”

She alleged that past polls result were merely written, adding that “now votes will count and the only way voters can choose whom to vote is to listen to your manifesto which can only be presented to them during your campaign”.

The opposition party had alleged that the presidency and INEC were perfecting plans to rig the 2019 general elections by creating illegal polling centres in Chad and Niger Republic.

The Transitional Phase of African Poetry

The Transitional Phase The second phase, which we have chosen to call transitional, is represented by the poetry of writers like Abioseh Nicol, Gabriel Okara, Kwesi Brew, Dennis Brutus, Lenrie Peters and Joseph Kariuki. This is poetry which is written by people we normally refer to as modem and who may be thought of as belonging to the third phase. The characteristics of this poetry are its competent and articulate use of the received European language, its unforced grasp of Africa’s physical, cultural and socio-political environment and often its lyricism. To distinguish this type of poetry we have to refer back to the concept of appropriation we introduced earlier. At the simplest and basic level, the cultural mandate of possessing a people’s piece of the earth involves a mental and emotional homecoming within the physical environment. Poems like Brew’s ‘‘Dry season”, Okara’s “Call of the River Nun”, Nicol’s “The meaning of Africa” and Soyinka’s “Season”, to give a few examples,

A former Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Agency, Buba Galadima, has accused the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria of witch-hunt after the agency took possession of his business and assets on Tuesday in Abuja. Galadima, an ardent critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, claimed that he did not borrow money or have unpaid debt with Unity Bank, which lodged a complaint against him and occasioned AMCON’s move on Tuesday. The properties taken over include House No. 15, Addis Ababa Crescent, Wuse Zone 4, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and House No. 4, Bangui Street, Wuse 2, also in Abuja.  Reacting to the situation, Galadima said, “This is an attempt to disgrace and break me down. This is injustice and an attempt to humiliate me. "But I am unbreakable and they can never silence me. They sacked me and over 50 people that sleep in the apartment. "We don’t know where to go. We will remain on the streets. We will remain on the streets until God provi
