2019: Don’t campaign about killings in Nigeria - APC warns PDP

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly asked the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to concentrate its campaigns ahead of the 2019 general elections on the killings in the country, but rather focus on people-oriented issues.

In a statement released by the APC on Thursday, December 13, by Lanre Issa-Onilu, its national spokesperson, the party said victims of killings are owed solemn conducts in their honour and in empathy with the bereaved families.

The party said this should be the norm, not to play politics with unfortunate events.

According to the APC, the latest campaign of the PDP attempts to distort facts concerning the security record of the President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Premium Times reports that the APC said this in reaction to a declaration by the PDP’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, that under the current administration, more Nigerians have been killed than during the Civil War that ended in 1970.

It said if it wanted to follow the PDP’s allegation, it would also pitch the civil war deaths with what happened under the PDP government that ended in 2015.

The ruling party said it would engage Nigerians based on the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the election.

The APC reminded the PDP that it successfully tackled the Niger Delta crisis which it inherited from the opposition party.

It also reminded the PDP that Ogoni, a community in the Niger Delta had been destroyed by oil keaks which has eventually led to the recommendation of a clean-up.

It said even though the report was released under Goodluck Jonathan’s government in 2011, nothing was done about it until 2015 when the Buhari government launched the exercise.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the police operatives have formed ally with All Progressives Congress (APC) to victimise the party.

The Punch reported that the national chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, said this on Wednesday, December 12, through a statement by his media aide, Ike Abonyi.
