African Games: Nigeria Wins Two Medals In Table Tennis

  The Nigerian pair of Offiong Edem and Cecilia Akpan on Monday in Rabat, Morocco, won the gold medal in the women’s doubles event of the table tennis competition at the 12th African Games. They beat teammates Funke Oshonaike and Fatimo Bello 3-2 to win the top honour. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Akan and Edem started the game brightly, winning the first two sets 11-7 11-6. But the pair of Oshonaike and Bello rallied to win the next two sets 11-7 11-2 to take the game to deuce, where Edem and Akan prevailed 13-11 in the game’s fifth set. The Nigerian teams had on their way to the final beaten Kenya 3-0, Ethiopia 3-0, Chad 3-0 and South Africa 3-0. They went on to smash Egypt 3-1 and later 3-2, and then Algeria 3-2. High Court Judge Declared Missing In Abuja

  A judge with the Federal High Court, Idrissa Saleh, has been declared missing after failing to return home since Saturday, according to a report by PUNCH. Family members of the judge reported the incident to the police after Saleh failed to come back after allegedly discharging himself from a hospital at the Central Business District, Abuja. A family member said the judge left the hospital where he was being treated for an undisclosed ailment without informing the management. He said, “Justice Saleh was admitted in the hospital and he left in a taxi without disclosing his whereabouts to anyone. “Even the management of the hospital was not aware of his movement. “I think he has a problem, which he didn’t share with anyone; but the police are treating it as a case of missing person and they are actively searching for him as we speak.” Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Bala Ciroma, confirmed the incident, noting that an investigation has been launched int

William Hayden English . William Hayden English (August 27, 1822 – February 7, 1896) was a US Representative from Indiana and the Democratic nominee for vice president in 1880. English entered politics at a young age, becoming part of the conservative wing of the state Democratic Party. He was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1851 and served as its speaker at the age of 29. Elected to Congress in 1852, he served four terms, leaving office in 1861. English was a War Democrat, supporting the Union in the Civil War. He was successful in business, and became one of the wealthiest people in Indiana. He returned to political life as Winfield Scott Hancock's running mate in 1880, but they were narrowly defeated by their Republican opponents, James A. Garfield and Chester A. Arthur. Afterwards, English continued in business and wrote two books.
