DCLM Daily MannaTopic: God’s Righteous Judgement [DCLM Daily Manna 20 August 2019 Daily Devotional By Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Amos 1:1-10 (KJV)

1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

2 And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.

3 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:

4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.

5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.

6 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:

7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:

8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.

9 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:

10 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.

Key Verse: “And he said, the LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherd shall mourn and the top of Carmel shall wither” (Amos 1:2).

MESSAGE:

Our God is a righteous judge. He is very loving and compassionate. His patience endureth for long. As loving as He is, He never condones evils.

Amos was an 8th century B.C. prophet, a contemporary of Isaiah and Micah in Judah and Jonah and Hosea in Israel. He was a herdsman and gatherer of sycamore fruit. He was a native of Tekoa, a village in Judah. He was not a prophet but God gave him a prophetic vision and ministry concerning rebellious Israel.

In today’s reading, Amos was a man filled with burden and he brought to light without mincing words his errands for both Israel and the surrounding nations. He was called to deliver a message of judgment to Israel and to give them a final warning. He began by pronouncing judgment on seven neighbouring nations.

The book of Amos is an eye opener to the various stages in the religious development of mankind. It is a protest of a single person as led by the Spirit of God to reveal the evil practices and manifestation of people living in that era. It reveals God’s hatred for sin of mistreating other human beings. God is a righteous judge. He will surely judge every violent and inhuman practices done against other fellow beings.

Despite the fact that Israel had received the goodness and kindness of God, they turned against His law and covenants and forgot all He had done for them. The judgment of God therefore was to enable Israel to appreciate her guilt and bear the reproach of God’s righteous judgment. This is to assure us that there is One who judges the affairs of men on earth. Satan’s reign on earth shall surely come to an end. It is only the kingdom of Christ that shall abide for ever and ever.

Thought For The Day: To escape God’s imminent judgment, you must approach Him in repentance.
