- The party has been meeting on how to navigate its interest in the Senate leadership tussle

- Senator Abaribe has reportedly had audience with Senator Goje

As the battle for the National Assembly leadership heats up, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly making moves to influence the outcome of the Senate election.

It was reported that the three contenders have also been taking signature of loyalists to determine their chances of winning.

A former Abia deputy governor, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has been coordinating the opposition group as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly set to give block votes.

A source said that Abaribe has had audience with Senator Goje and demanded the true picture of his strength among APC senators-elect.

Goje was said “to be yet to respond to PDP’s request because his camp was still taking stock.”

Although Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has reportedly met with lawmakers to strategise ahead of the election of the principal officers of the Senate, some of the PDP members are opposed to block vote.

Legit.ng had reported that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will field a candidate for the 9th Senate presidency contest, if Senator Danjuma Goje eventually fails to participate in the race.

Goje is a former governor of Gombe state and senator representing Gombe central senatorial district in the National Assembly. Even though he is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), he is said to be the adopted candidate of the PDP.

According to the report, the PDP has been monitoring direction of events, to see what would happen in the APC, with respect to who would contest as candidates of the ruling party before deciding on whether or not to participate in the race.
