Pimples can be caused by a wide range of lifestyle, diet, environment and age factors. There are many guides and tutorials out there on how to remove pimples. While different approaches will yield mixed results on different people, there are many tried and proven methods that are inexpensive and effective.

What causes spots on face?

  • Hormonal imbalances. Increased levels of androgen in the body can lead to higher oil production by the body. This is what causes pimples in most teens.
  • Clogged skin pores. Elements such as dead skin and excessive oil can clog up the skin pores and cause acne.
  • Poor diet. This is a diet that contains highly refined grains, processed sugars and saturated fats.
  • A wide range of psychiatric problems related to stress, anxiety and depression can cause acne.
  • Usage of certain medications such as corticosteroids and those that affect the body’s hormonal balance can lead to pimple breakout.
  • Lack of adequate sleep.

How to remove pimples: natural pimple removal ideas

Natural acne remedies make use of readily available household ingredients to combat skin problems. Here are the best methods and products to remove pimples.

Papaya

Papaya is one of the most common ingredients in beauty products today, and it is easy to see why. The fruit contains an enzyme called papain, which is quite effective against skin inflammation. The raw fruit is a natural remedy for pimples and works by removing dead skin and absorbing excessive oil.

To use this remedy, get well-grown medium papaya and scoop out the flesh. Mash it up into a smooth paste that can be easily applied on the skin. Apply this as a mask and leave for at least twenty minutes before rinsing off gently.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is a common ingredient in various beauty products due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial characteristics. Natural aloe gel helps reduce redness and swelling and at the same time reduces the development of bacteria on the skin. The best results will require a freshly-cut aloe.

Use your fingertips to apply the aloe gel directly onto the affected area and leave for ten minutes. Cleanse the face gently and moisturize if the skin feels dry. Handle the raw aloe gel with care to avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Sugar scrub

Sugar works wonders in unclogging skin pores. When mixed with sea salt and water, the resulting paste is excellent for exfoliation and reducing acne breakouts. To achieve the best results, put sugar and salt into a bowl and add little amounts of water until it forms a thick paste. Apply this as a mask on your face or directly onto the problem areas and leave for fifteen minutes. Rinse gently and moisturize.

Honey and cinnamon face mask

It is one of the most effective home remedies for pimples. Cinnamon is known for its anti-microbial properties. It inhibits the development of bacteria on the surface of the skin. Honey, on the other hand, is a natural antibiotic and kills bacteria present on the skin. These reasons explain why a cinnamon-honey face mask would come in handy.

To get the best results, mix three tablespoons of honey with one and a half teaspoons of honey and mix until they form a smooth blend. Apply this paste directly onto the blemish and leave for fifteen minutes. Rinse off the face gently and pat dry.

Orange peels

It seems oranges are just as good for our skin as they are for our taste buds. The citric acid found in oranges helps control bacteria, while vitamin C promotes the development of healthy new skin cells. To use this remedy, blend two medium-sized orange peels while adding water until you achieve a thick consistent blend. Apply this paste on the pimple and leave for twenty minutes before rinsing off. You may feel your skin get a bit dry in which case you need to moisturize.

Yoghurt mask

Dairy products are often on the wrong side of the acne conversation and rightly so. When ingested, milk can raise hormone levels and contribute to pimple formation. However, if applied on the skin, it helps soothe irritated skin and acts as a handy moisturizer due to its fat content.

For the best results, let the yoghurt reach room temperature if it is already chilled. Apply an even layer using a cotton pad and let dry for a few minutes before adding another layer. Once you achieve a thick mask, let it sit for ten minutes before scrubbing gently and rinsing off.

Egg whites

Egg whites have a high concentration of proteins and vitamins that help fight off acne and heal the skin’s blemishes. They also get rid of excessive oil on the skin, thus reducing the chances of bacteria thriving on the skin. However, the whites tend to have rather strong skin drying properties, so a good moisturizer will come in handy.

How to remove pimples from face using egg whites

To achieve the perfect results, get three eggs and separate the whites from the yolks. Whisk the whites into a smooth mixture and let sit for ten minutes. Use your fingertips to apply this mixture onto the blemishes on your skin. You should apply at least four layers for the best result. Once this is done, let the mask stay on for twenty minutes before rinsing off. Your skin will feel relatively dry, so make sure to moisturize.

Apple cedar vinegar

One reason why this is among the top acne solutions is its ability to kill off bacteria thriving on the surface of the skin. The mixture is alkaline and balances out the skin’s Ph levels, thus making it impossible for acne-causing bacteria to thrive. Keep in mind that it also helps remove excess oil on the skin and should, therefore, be used in moderation.

To achieve the best results, make a solution using one part apple cedar vinegar and three parts water. Dip a cotton ball into this solution and apply directly onto the affected skin area. Make sure to wash your face after each application gently. Use a mild moisturizer if you feel your skin getting dry.

Honey and strawberries

Any skin remedy list would be incomplete without the berry. The fruit’s salicylic acid content is the main reason it is used in some of the most expensive facial products available today. This acid allows the skin to shed dead cells more freely, thus unclogging pores and reducing acne formation. Honey, on the other hand, prevents the growth of new bacteria on the skin and soothes any affected areas.

Make a paste by mashing three strawberries and adding a teaspoonful of honey. Apply this paste on your face gently until you achieve an even layer. Let this sit for twenty minutes before rinsing off. You should repeat this twice a week until your skin gets to your desired condition.

Lemon juice

Lemon juice is an excellent home remedy for acne. Lemons are full of vitamin C, which promotes the growth of healthy skin cells. The citric acid present in the fruit helps remove dead skin cells as well as killing any bacteria present on the surface on the skin. Lastly, the astringent properties of lemon help dry off pimples naturally.

How to use lemon juice to clear small pimples on face

You will need freshly squeezed lemon juice to achieve the best results. Use a cotton ball to apply the lemon juice directly onto a pimple. You could mix in a bit of yoghurt if the lemon juice stings too much for your skin.

Banana peels

Yes, the banana is full of all-around goodness, including the parts we do not eat. The fruit’s peels are rich in lutein, a very effective anti-inflammatory. The antioxidants in banana peels help reduce swelling and encourage healthy cell growth. These peels can be beneficial in soothing already affected skin areas.

To achieve the best results, rub a peel onto your face in a circular motion until you have covered your entire face. Let this sit for twenty minutes before you rinse off and moisturize.

Garlic

Garlic is known for its potent anti-bacterial properties. You can choose to consume it or apply it on the skin. However, you should never apply garlic extract on your skin without diluting it. For the best results, extract the garlic juice and mix it with twice the amount of water. Leave this mixture for ten minutes before applying on your face. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture onto the problematic areas.

Keep in mind that garlic has a powerful smell and may put you off. If you find the mixture too runny, you may substitute water for natural aloe gel.

How to remove pimples naturally and permanently with lifestyle changes

Besides making use of the aforementioned remedies, one can solve the acne problem through various subtle lifestyle changes. The most effective solutions include:

Avoid touching the pimples

Every time you touch a pimple puts you at risk of further infection. This is due to the irritation caused to the skin and could lead to the spread of pimples on previously uninfected skin areas. Popping a pimple could also introduce foreign bodies such as bacteria and cause more damage. It is advisable to consult a medical practitioner in case of abnormally large sores.

Choose a good face cleanser

Various regular soaps have high acidity levels, which only serve to irritate the skin and consequently make the acne problem worse. You should get cleansers which pH levels are around 5.5. to reduce the risk of flaring up.

Try to use non-comedogenic skin products

What this means is that you should avoid petroleum-based (comedogenic) skin care products. The oil in these products blocks skin pores and can easily lead to clogging and the formation of acne.

Live a stress-free life

Stress has been listed as a possible cause of acne since it causes a significant increase in the hormone androgen. The hormone stimulates oil production in the body and thus increases the risk of acne breakouts.

There are numerous ways of managing stress, and a person’s solution could be different from another. Some conventional methods include exercising, yoga, meditation, sufficient sleep, balanced diet, and talking to friends.

Common myths about acne

  • Pimples prevent you from using a moisturizer. You can use one provided it is non-comedogenic (not oil-based). A right product will ensure that your face moisture is balanced. This is by ensuring there is no excess oil production as your skin tries to compensate for the dried up oil after treatment.
  • Pimples on chin occur in dirty skin. This misconception has led to many people overdoing their facial cleansing routines. Excessive scrubbing irritates the skin and could make a mild acne problem worse. It is advisable to stick to gentle cleansing routines.
  • Chocolate and fatty foods cause breakouts. While diet plays a role in the overall skin health, the notion that chocolate causes small bumps on face is unfounded.
