Top striker scores quickest Premier League goal ever in 7.69 seconds (video)

- Shane Long's strike in Southampton draw against Watford has set a new Premier League record

- Long scored the goal after just seven seconds to make it the quickest goal in the history of the EPL

- However, it was not enough to gift the Saints all the three points against the Hornets

Southampton striker, Shane Long's strike in his side's 1-1 draw against Watford on Tuesday night, April 23, at Vicarage Road, has set a new Premier League record.

Long's goal came straight after Watford kicked off the match, blocking a Craig Cathcart clearance before beating Ben Foster to score.

The strike arrived after just 7.69 seconds to make it the fastest goal in the history of the Premier League.

The new record has now effectively broken Ledley King's that had stood for 19 years.

King, a Tottenham Hotspurs defender at the time scored after 9.82 seconds against Bradford in December 2000.

In his post-match interview, Long admitted he was surprised to have set a new mark in the league.

"Ninety-nine times out of 100 you don't block them clearances, but I did and took a touch across him," BBC quoted Long.
"Ben is an amazing keeper, he spreads himself so well so I knew before the game that it was a good finish against him - and it came off," he added.

The goal was the Irishman's fourth of the season, with three of those coming in his past four appearances for Southampton.

However, it was not enough to see the Saints cart away all the three points as Watford's Andre Gray went on to restore parity for the hosts at stoppage time.
