The national and state House of Assembly election tribunal sitting in Umahia, Abia state, has been asked to nullify the election of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The request was made by the the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) senatorial candidate for Abia south senatorial district in the just concluded elections, Chris Nkwonta, who said Abaribe was not duly elected by majority of lawful votes cast and did not satisfy the mandatory constitutional threshold and spread across the local government areas of the state.

This Day reports that Abaribe was declared winner of the senatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after scoring 53,086 votes to defeat Nkwonta with 27,998.
Legit.ng gathers that INEC, Abaribe and PDP are 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents respectively in the petition Nkwonta.
According to Nkwonta, INEC declared Abaribe winner despite the fact that the scores contained in the results declared did not represent a correct account of the actual votes polled by the candidates as shown by the polling units results for the election.
Nkwonta, who said he won the majority of the lawful votes cast during the election and supplementary election, stated that he should be duly declared as senator.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were cautioned against subjecting the control of the National Assembly to certain individuals.
This was the position of the senator representing Abia South senatorial district, Enyinnaya Abaribe, who is also a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, at a dinner for senators-elect in Abuja on Monday, March 25, announced majority leader, Ahmad Lawan, as the preferred candidate of the party for the Senate presidency.
