2023: We must produce next Delta governor - Ijaws insist, put other tribes on notice

- Pereotubo Oweilaemi, president of the Ijaw Youth Council, says Ijaw people will only vote for a party with an Ijaw candidate in the 2023 Delta governorship election

- Oweilaemi stressed that it is time to ensure that Ijaws produce the next governor

- The IYC president also advised Ijaw politicians interested in becoming governor in 2023 to indicate interest now and warm up

The Ijaw people will only vote for a party with an Ijaw candidate in the 2023 Delta governorship election, says Pereotubo Oweilaemi, president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC).

According to Tribune, Oweilaemi said Ijaws are the kingmakers and deciding factor in Delta state.

Legit.ng gathers that he said: “We the ljaws in Delta state have been the deciding factor in any governorship election in the state from 1999 till date, so by extension, we are the kingmakers in the politics of Delta state.”

He stressed that it is time to ensure that Ijaws produce the next governor; pointing out that since 1999, the Ijaw people have supporting other ethnic nationalists in the state to become governor.

He said: “We are appealing to our brothers and sisters of other ethnic nationalists in the state to support an ljaw man to become the governor of our dear state in the 2023 governorship election for the sake equity and justice.”

The IYC president also advised Ijaw politicians interested in becoming governor in 2023 to indicate interest now and warm up; warning that time waits for no one.

When asked what will happen if the ruling party in the state fails to give its governorship ticket to an ljaw man in 2023, he said: “Well, if the ruling party in the state denies us their governorship ticket then we would have known the party is not serious in winning the governorship election and other elections in the ljaw areas.

"So when we get to that bridge by God’s grace in 2023, we will cross it because the 2023 ljaw governorship project is non-negotiable.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Ijaw Youth Council commended President Muhammadu Buhari for making Professor Nelson Brambiafa from Bayelsa state the acting director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The council also said there were moves by some politicians to seek the removal of the new acting director for political gains.

Tare Porri, chairman of the IYC, said the appointment had shown that it was their turn in Bayelsa to lead the commission.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
