Man recounts how his sister was robbed of N600k by one chance operators and what the police did about it

In Nigeria, it is common to hear stories of fraudsters duping innocent people of their hard earned monies. In such cases, the victims are advised to report to the police, but it does not always have a favourable end.

A young Nigerian man identified as Flynn (@le_sther) on Twitter, took to the microblogging site to lament the woes his sister faced in the hands of one chance operators who beat her up before proceeding to steal from her.

According to Flynn, the incident happened in Abuja and the robbers beat her up till she disclosed her ATM pin. They reportedly withdrew N100k from her account then transferred N500k to another account. The matter was later reported to the police.

Things started to seem hopeful when the police contacted the bank and the receiving account was frozen. However, the victim was told that she had to get a court order and she paid another N100k to a lawyer to help in that aspect.

After two months, the court reportedly granted the order and the bank then said that the money was no longer in the account and the police remained silent on the issue. Eventually, the whole case had to be dropped.

This was obviously a money and time wasting ordeal for the victim and people on social media sympathised with her as they also proffered solutions on how to get the money back.
