Local polls observers advise INEC on crowd control

Domestic election observers in Bauchi state have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to provide crowd control officers at voting centres during the governorship and state Assembly elections.

Speaking through their team leader, Friday Maduka, during a press conference in Bauchi on Thursday, March 7, the observers said there was need for proper control of voters in queues for voting to be smooth and hitch-free, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

They also called on INEC to ensure that personnel handling Smart Card Readers (SCRs) were adequately trained on how to operate the device.

The observers urged security agents to check the activities of political thugs in the state to avert their being used as tool to disrupt the election process.

On the role expected of media organizations, they reminded journalists of the ethics of their progression, saying that nothing short of highest display of patriotism was expected.

They also pledged to perform their duties diligently and without fear or favour as Bauchi was, in their words ”safe and peaceful.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that INEC had begun the distribution of sensitive materials to 21 local government areas in Anambra ahead of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Nkwachukwu Orji, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who supervised the exercise at branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) jn Awka on Wednesday, March 6, told journalists that the commission was determined to conduct credible, free and fair election.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
