Governor Dickson accuses Army of using force in Bayelsa

- Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson, has accused the military personnel of using terror force in the state

- The governor said the last presidential and the National Assembly election in the state was greeted by show of force by the military personnel

- Dickson, however, urged the people of the state come out en-masse to vote for candidates of PDP on Saturday, March 9

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state has accused the military personnel of operating like a terror force over the role they allegedly played during the Saturday, February 23, presidential and National Assembly elections.

Vanguard reports that Dickson who made the allegation on Monday, March 4, while presenting flags to the party’s House of Assembly candidates in Yenagoa, described the role played by military operatives during the elections as “a coup against democracy.”

Legit.ng gathered that the governor in a statement by his special adviser on media relations, Fidelis Soriwei, however, urged the people to turn out in their large numbers to vote for all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates despite the brazen intimidation and harassment by partisan security forces.

He said: “The Nigerian nation has once again failed our people by preventing them not only from voting but also accessing their homes in places such as Nembe Bassambiri.

''Even when we sent Civil Defence Corps and mobile police operatives to the communities, the hoodlums and their supporters chased them away. I’m afraid that our communities are becoming a lawless society.

“The last election that held just a few days ago can best be described as a military coup against democracy in our state. I don’t expect anything less in this coming election, but despite that, we won in all the units, wards, and constituencies where election took place.

“But let me assure you that the charade they organised in Nembe Bassambiri and southern Ijaw will not stand. I urge PDP leaders not to fall prey to the propaganda and blackmail.”

Dickson noted that failure to adhere to the electoral guidelines would create instability in the state which would have a ripple effect in the entire Niger Delta region.

According to him, no political party that is popular would resort to violence, rigging and winning elections through the barrel of the gun.

Appreciating Bayelsans for their support to the PDP, he assured that the party would not spare any effort in recovering its stolen mandate.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson was accused of plotting violence by flooding the state with arms ahead of sate House of Assembly elections in the state.

Yekini Nabena, the deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who made the damning allegation while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, March 3, cited a security report which he alleged uncovered the arms build-up by the governor.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
