Breaking: There'll be no extension of polls time - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Saturday, March 9, says there will be no extension of voting time in the Governorship, State Houses of Assembly and FCT Area Council elections following an early commencement of the polls nationwide.

Festus Okoye, INEC National commissioner, and chairman, information and Voter Education Committee, said this while briefing newsmen in the INEC national situation room in Abuja.

Okoye said that INEC was pleased to report that the electoral process started as scheduled and the Smart Card Reader proved its functionality and efficiency by successfully authenticating voters within a short time at polling units across the country.

According to him, most polling units were opened for accreditation by 8 am.

He said the commission would investigate and report to security agencies security challenges experienced by some states for necessary action.

Okoye said the commission had not received any report on cases of under age voting in this years elections.

Speaking on the low turned out of voters in the FCT, Okoye said the commission would take a decision on voters apathy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu monitored activities around the FCT and the INEC office in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that shooting and ballot boxes snatching by armed hoodlums have spread to some parts of Lokoja, Kogi capital, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Legit.ng gathered that some hoodlums in fake police and army uniforms were scaring away voters at the polling units opposite Bishop Delisle Catholic Cathedral in Lokoja.

A staffer of the Justice, Development and Peace Commission, Sunday Adwjoh, said that many people from Karaworo Polling Station ran into the church premises for safety.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
