Just in: Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Northern Elders Forum, others endorse Atiku for president

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential ambition in the forthcoming general election has received a huge boost as leaders of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Northern Elders Forum, Pan-Niger Delta forum, the Middle Belt Forum, and a faction of Afenifere have endorsed Atiku Abubakar as their presidential candidate.

The group disclosed this at a meeting tagged: Summit of Nigerian leaders and elders.

Channels TV reports that they arrived at the conclusion after series of meetings with the presidential candidates in the past months.

It was reported that the group accused President Muhammadu Buhari of dividing the country and not having control of the presidency.

Dr Pogu Bitrus (Middle Belt Forum), Ago Abdullahi (Northern Elders Forum), Ayo Fasanmi (Afenifere), Edwin Clarke (Pan Niger Delta Forum) John Nwodo (Ohanaeze Ndigbo) and Buba Galadima are among those at the meeting.

However, in a related development, a pressure group, Zikist-Buharist Movement (ZBM), has called on the people of the southeast geo-political zone to vote massively for President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16 presidential election.

The Secretary of the movement, Mr Godwin Onwusi, made the call in a statement titled: “2023 President will Turn to Ndigbo,” and issued on Sunday in Enugu.

According to him, any voter from the zone who voted for any other candidate aside President Muhammadu Buhari was working against the general interest of the Igbos.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) was planning to meet with the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), the Middle Belt leaders, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Afenifere in Abuja with the aim of endorsing Atiku Abubakar.

The information was revealed by a source close to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who said the Igbo socio-cultural group, Afenifere, PANDEF, and the Middle Belt leaders had earlier agreed to support Ariku ahead of the election on February 16.

It was learnt that the choice of Atiku could be hinged on his determination for restructuring as the source believes that President Muhammadu Buhari may not be optimistic enough.
