Elections 2019: PDP chieftain picked at midnight, held incommunicado

- A PDP chieftain in Akwa Ibom, Iniobong Ekong, was abducted midnight

- Report has it that he is being held incommunicado at an unknown location in Port Harcourt

Capt Iniobong Ekong (Rtd), the senior special adviser on security matters to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, has been abducted.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain was reportedly picked midnight on Friday, February 22, by soldiers, The Nation reports.

Confirming Ekong's abduction, the commissioner for information, Akwa Ibom state, said the PDP chief is being held incommunicado at an unknown location in Port Harcourt.

According to Vanguard report, the soldiers who picked up Ekong were allegedly sent by the GOC of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, purportedly following a petition written by Senator Godswill Akpabio.

When contacted, the police public relations officer, Odiko McDon said the police was yet to receive such information. He promised to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, election materials for the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections, have arrived at some polling unit in Uyo, the state capital.

INEC staff are waiting to commence accreditation of voters which starts at 8am.

Many voters were said to have come out as early as 6:30am at the various polling units along Ikot Ekpene road, Afaha Ube Itam road, Asutan Street, Abak Road, Oron Road; Idoro Road and Wellington Bassey Way Uyo, where the government house is located.

A former governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, has said the people of Akwa Ibom are ready to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Akpabio, a current senator representing Akwa Ibom North at the National Assembly, said the people of the state are 80% to 90% ready to give their mandates to Buhari.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
