Despite security crisis, Borno to enjoy steady electricity supply as state gets new 33/132/33kV transmission substation

- The Borno state has got a new power transmission substation amid security challenges

- The new 33/132/33kV transmission substation was positioned at Molai outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis

- The state minister for works, power and housing, Mustapha Baba Shehuri, commissioned the new power project

It was another boost to the power supply of Borno state as an electricity company, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), commissioned a 33/132/33kV transmission substation at the Molai outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis.

Daily Trust reports that despite the security challenges bedeviling the state in the recent time, the residents of Borno will have something to smile on as the minister of state for works, power and housing, Mustapha Baba Shehuri, commissioned the new power project amid fanfare.

Legit.ng gathers that the project, which was was executed by Charnel Engineering Limited and, later, Best and Crompton Engineering Africa Limited, began in 2006 and completed in October, 2018.

Commissioning the project, the minister said the power boost will be achieved through Maiduguri-Damaturu 330kV transmission line and Gombe-Biu-Damboa-Maiduguri 132kV transmission line.

He also admonished the the people the state to maximize the good use of improved power supply for the development state industries, adding that the project would increase Yola Electricity Distribution Company’s (YEDC) hours of supply to Maiduguri and environs.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that five weeks after Legit.ng published a report on the blackouts experienced in Mokwa, Niger state and the poor response of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to the issue, the town had now been connected to the grid.

The reports revealed that the broken down substation in the community, which plunged the community into over nine months of power outages, had been finally replaced with 7.5 MVA distribution injection sub-station.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
