Nigeria Customs generates N3.1trn revenue in 3 years

- The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it generated about N3.1 trillion

- The service realised N898.8 billion revenue in 2016, N1.037 trillion in 2017 and N1.2 trillion in 2018

- About 16,049 seizures of various commodities were made by NCS commands within the period across the country

In the last three years, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it HAS generated about N3.1 trillion revenue for the country, Leadership reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah, the public relations officer of NCS, on Tuesday, January 15, disclosed in Abuja that the revenue was generated between 2016 and 2018.

He explained that the service realised N898.8 billion revenue in 2016, N1.037 trillion in 2017 and the sum of N1.2 trillion was generated in 2018.

Attah said that within the period under review, about 16,049 seizures of various commodities were made by NCS commands across the country.

The spokesperson giving a breakdown, said 5,925 items were seized in 2016, 4,889 impounded in 2017 and 5,235 in 2018.

He said: “The implementation of the presidential mandate to restructure, reform, and raise revenue by the present management of NSC has greatly repositioned the service for better.

“What is challenging but being gradually achieved is the reform of persons, especially the need for attitudinal change on the part of operatives and stakeholders.

“Today in the service, there is an increasing disposition to place national interest above self.”

He said that suppression of smuggling remained the most challenging aspect of Customs’ functions as anti-smuggling operations were seen differently by many people who still regarded smuggling as a business not crime.

In a previous report by Legit.ng, three cartons of Tramadol 255mg and 1,100 bags of foreign per boiled Rice Duty worth over 54 million naira in Kaduna state was seized by Nigeria Customs Federal Operation Unit, Zone ‘B’.

Mohammed Sarkin Kebbi, the Area Controller of the zone, disclosed this in Kaduna on Wednesday, January 9, while conducting newsmen round the seized items.

Kebbi explained that the three cartons of tramadol where uncovered along Kaduna-Abuja road concealed in a truck conveying motor cycle spare parts. .

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
