Super Eagles star and 4 other Nigerian players whose death brought tears to our eyes in 2018

The year 2018 is gradually coming to an end in which many sporting activities took place in Nigeria, Africa and also many parts of the world.

Some events brought joy and happiness to the minds of many football fans in Nigeria as Nigerians were happy the day the Super Eagles qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which was played in Russia.

Also, some families were thrown into mourning due to the ugly occurrences that happened in the year 2018.

And today, we shall be taking a look at some of the Nigerian sports personalities that died in the year 2018 in which their families are still battling to cope with the pains their death brought to them.

1. Chinedu Udoji

On Sunday, February 18, the family of former Super Eagles and Kano Pillars' defender Chinedu Udoji were thrown into mourning when the player died in a fatal accident in Kano.

Chinedu Udoji who was 28 until the day he died was coming from the hotel of his former teammates Enyimba who played a 1-1 draw with Kano Pillars in an NPFL tie.

He died on his way back to his house leaving two kids, wife, mother, father and two elder brothers behind.

2. Hussaini Isah

On Monday, May 14, Nigerian topflight club Niger Tornadoes lost one of their best players Hussaini Isah who was hit by a running motorcycle in front of his family house at flamingo estate Maitumbi, in Minna and died after been rushed to the hospital.

Before the untimely demise of Isah, he played for Niger Tornadoes in their Nigeria Professional Football League game against Kwara United not knowing that he would die the next day.

3. Collins Ebitimi

The death of former Flying Eagles and Stationery Stores of Lagos defender Collins Ebitimi brought great tension and pains to the hearts of many football lovers in Nigeria.

The 54-year-old who was a legend as far as Nigerian Professional Football League is concerned was said to have slumped in front of his house in Ikorodu, Lagos on Wednesday, September 26.

Collins Ebitimi became famous in the Nigerian topflight football when he helped Stationery Stores of Lagos to win the Nigerian Premier League title in 1992.

4. Ekundayo Ebenezer

23-year-old Nigerian footballer Ekundayo Ebenezer Mawoyeka died in Turkey after suffering an heart attack during a match on Sunday, November 4, in Turkey.

Before he died, Ekundayo was playing for amateur club Sarayköyspor, and he suddenly collapsed in the 35th minute in a match against Yeşilköyspor at the Servergazi Stadium.

He was said to have had a dream of one day playing in the Premier League, but death ended his aims and targets.

5. Ameh Otache

The death of former Super Falcons' midfielder Ajuma Ameh Otache came as a big blow to all Nigerian football fans as she died at the age of 33.

She died on Saturday, November 10, and it was until her death that it was revealed she had been battling with muscular disease.

Previously, Legit.ng had reported how former Super Eagles, Enyimba and Kano Pillars' star Chinedu Udoji was killed in a fatal motor accident while he was returning to his lodge in Kano.

Chinedu Udoji played for Kano Pillars on Sunday evening, February 18, against his former club Enyimba at the Sanni Abacha Stadium, Kofarmata in Kano which ended 1-1.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
