After months of total blackout, BEDC restores power supply to Ondo, Ekiti communities

The BEDC Electricity Plc on Thursday, December 27, said it has restored electricity supply to Ode-Aye town in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo south and some communities in Ekiti state.

Punch reports that the traditional ruler of Ondo town, Oba William Akinmusayo Akinlade, the Halu of Ode-Aye Kingdom, said the electricity was restored in the communities after a long period of total blackout.

They said: “We thank God; after a long while, electricity is now on. We thank the BEDC. We thank the staff, management and everybody working in BEDC. God will bless you all. You will not be put into a blackout.”

Also, a statement by the the chief state head, Ondo/Ekiti, Kunbi Labiyi, on behalf of the management of BEDC urged field staff of the organisation to do everything possible to ensure that residents of Ode-Aye enjoy electricity beginning from the Yuletide.

According to her, one of the major communities that had suffered electricity deprivation in the southern senatorial district of Ondo state which led to the issuance of a stern directive by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

BEDC said in fulfillment of its pledge to Ekiti state government, it also restored electricity supply to some communities in Ekiti, namely Erinijiyan, Ipole-Iloro and Ikogosi on Wednesday, December 26.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the presidential candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has assured Nigerians of development in the power sector if she wins the 2019 presidential election.

She added that uninterrupted power supply would be witnessed in the country under her watch if elected.

Ezekwesili in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Sunday, December 2, said the electricity industry would be developed to employ more youths if she assumes office.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
